The term ‘Supergroup’ always seems to be used way too much, especially in the critics areas. Collaborating with good people is what a musician we all strive for, but most of us do not want that tag attached to a project. It becomes a target for naysayers and people not qualified to give a decent opinion on the music.
Having members that have been in such illustrious bands as Helloween
, Gamma Ray
, Iron Saviour
and Van Zant
one would be expecting a band that can play beyond the capabilities of most mortal musicians - and that is exactly what we have here crammed on a shiny metal disk. Soaring harmonies, soul catching hooks and pin-point riffs that seem to come from the gods themselves.
With eleven songs of pure power magic, it is a album that soars and rises like a eagle riding the air currents looking for its prey. The hot spots are many, as each track effortlessly hits those pleasure spots in your brain at every beat. 'King For A Day' has to be my personal favorite song on the whole CD, because both the lyrics and music were perfectly blended into to create one of the best Power metal/Hard Rock album in a very long time.
I still prefer listening to Helloween
’s entire catalogue, but Unisonic
is a great vehicle for these musicians who are striving to forge their own landscape. I like it enough that I am waiting with great expectation to hear the next one when it comes out. If the band as a entity continues to evolve while keeping the strong musicianship and interesting lyrics, they will have the metal world by the short hairs - having them at their own whims.
