I have heard very little metal coming out of Serbia and I was curious to see just what was offering up. What I found, at least with this Serbian band named Sangre Eterna (eternal blood in Spanish) might be best described as being very confused... perhaps more along the lines of ill-conceived?

It was odd what I was hearing as the file played. I was getting Melodic Death Metal coming out of my headphones, but this DM was coloured with a little Cradle Of Filth and Children Of Bodom styles through it all. Sweeping keyboards and mid tempo nasty guitar riffs live aside a rhythm section that pummelled through the sadly made mix.... which cannot hide the very noticably lackluster ‘barked’ vocals which seem to just be one dimensional and without power when you can hear them.

Most of the tracks seem to be promising enough, but because of the horrid mix where all things are muddied or simply missing-in-action not to mention those heavy growling vocals seem distant or simply not there in the recording. I like some of the keyboards lines at times (I am not a fan of Keyboards in most metal) but they seem almost an after thought for most of it. It is a album that seems to simply be there like a rock on the side of a country road, rather than feel alive.

It is sad, Sangre Eterna seems to have musicians that can play at a high level, but they did not do there job. I can really see that the band could be so much better - if they took their time and thought the music through and use the talent they have not done up to now. As it stands now, this is not ever close to simply being mediocre. It is just flat out bad in every category I use in my work... sorry, that is what I hear.
