MetalBite Review by JD on 7/25/2013
It takes a lot to make me admit that I was blown away by something after being so long in the metal trenches. I have heard my fair share of albums or perhaps more than most. I gotta admit somethin’ here; I have found just that sort of album. Primitive Man’s "Scorn" is the epitome of heaviness and the new benchmark for dark and disturbing lyrics with the added bonus of ferociousness.

Coming from the mile high city of Denver Colorado, Primitive Man is the most brutal piece of metal that has ever been recorded and released. Combining the extreme end of heavy Doom, touches of some nasty Sludge and parts of Noise as well, you get a brilliant masterpiece in dark pulverizing fury and depressing force. Think of ex-Spinefarm Records artists Sick, and then up the heaviness by twelve plus adding in record levels of pure hate into it with depression deeper than any pill or psychotherapy could ever fix.

I think that hands down, the title track that goes for over eleven brutal minutes of slow motion abhorrence and balls to the wall heaviness is the true star here. With this mind numbing hatred coupled with darkened despair and touches of inner regrets in all the lyrics makes this band stand out. The other tracks are just as intense, heavy and anger fuelled – but it is the main track that seems best to show exactly what this sludgy, doom laden band is all about. It is actually scary.

I have not been so unnerved by lyrics since being a kid and hearing Death for the first time. Malevolence is just the beginning to explain the words here that come from Primitive Man. If you scare easily, or might be on suicide watch somewhere - do not get this album.
