Italy Country of Origin: Italy

Italy really has become a wonderful undiscovered bastion for all the forms of extreme metal, for which I am grateful for. Other than giving us delicious and simply amazing foods, Italy really have been pumping out some really good metal stuff for the masses to feed on. Just like the very impressive act that I am pleased to be charged with writing about – Black Oath.

Combining the thoughtful yet melancholic lyrics like Novembers Doom which have an air of light to them as well with traditional heaviness that combines into one both Candlemass and the mighty Black SabbathBlack Oath are a force that is to be heard and enjoyed. Strong writing and musicianship makes me one happy critic.

I was impressed throughout the album, and yet there were a few glitches that were still taking away from the album’s listening experience. I was impressed with songs like 'Black Water' and its infectious riffs and haunting style, to the biting melodies of 'My Death' but I wanted a little more power in the vocal mixes and a little heavier guitar sounds. When the guitars went a little heavier and were brought forth – the band has struck the right chords.

Aside from my personal taste in guitar sounds – this album is great on its own, one that will live and breathe in your head for many days. Doom Metallers will love every slow and heavy nasty riff Black Oath gives, and other bangers will also get into it. Equal opportunity metal... this is metal for the masses!
