Flying hair, headbanging at breakneck speed and copious amounts of sweat – sounds like thrash metal to me. Canadians seem to love their thrash, and this is coming from a very proud Metalhead that is Canadian and here to offer up another one of growing minions of bands from the Great White North that wave the banner of thrash high and honored.
Based in Toronto, Ontario, this one man outfit (recorded with the help of various musicians also live) called Crawling Quiet
bowls you over with a mixing of stripped-down traditional thrash with some newer styles of metal. What you get is some average thrash, bogged down like a boat anchor by other stuff and that is not a good thing.
Typecast riffs, undefined musical direction and an overabundance of brutally bad recording seem to be what you get with CQ
. I see what the main man’s vision was (Mark Trudeau), and hear it – but it comes across as anything but. I hear promise in the band, but it never did come to fruition sort of like clawing at the brass ring and yet never knowing how to grab it finally. Each song has great potential, but never ends up getting there.
I think Mr. Trudeau might end up getting his music to the level that his vision needs open to the light. As of right now, this metallic ship has hit the reef of mediocrity very hard and has sunk after taking on water. Talent will be the lifeboat for Mark Trudeau, and I hope this man finds this little craft before he hits the watery bottom.
