MetalBite Review by Adam M on 3/19/2014
Kylesa plays a groove influenced form of metal. The quiet nature of the music means that a great deal of emotion is incorporated in a subdued form. There is an indie vibe to the music as well that could recall the likes of The Arcade Fire.

Groove is built up into outlets for the band to let go of their emotion in a big fashion. The huge explosions of emotion are really vibrant and colorful as the name of the album would suggest. There isn't anything terribly heavy about this disc and it shows that the band just wants to rock out. Right from the second track “Unspoken”, things start to become more interesting and trippy. The song is a definite highlight and it features a nice twist later in the song. A feel good vibe is certainly at the forefront of this album in terms of its mood. It later becomes more varied in feel overall. The percussion that is utilized in a tasteful manner is often put in the forefront of the music and makes sense there. The vocals feel like a chant and don’t do anything drastically interesting to the music. It is more the jam section of the remainder of the music that catches on and doesn't let go. It’s not deep enough to completely enrapture you, but plenty interesting enough for a few nice listens. Ultraviolet is an album that encompasses the title of the work and puts this into the best possible practices.

In terms of albums that have a rock element, this is up there with the Daft Punk and The Arcade Fire of last year. However, it also bears slight similarities to the excellent Sister album released by In Solitude. Fans of a variety of different types of music should find something to like here.
