Talking about progressive music is not the easiest thing to do. Writing about progressive death metal - now that’s hell of a challenge. There’s many reasons for it (in my case at least) and one of them could lie in a fact that progressive metal is a kind of music that can stir up all kinds of emotions in listeners, which could in turn begin an exchange of opinions that can conclude in most surprising of ways. In some cases it can lead up to either never ending conversation over a case of cold ones, or could be a start to vicious beating and late night visit to the ER. Depends on the chatterers I guess. The thing about progressive death metal is that everybody will hear something different and everybody will have something different to say about the music, and also very possibly have different opinion about same exact song or album. Forensic Clinic’s album Lovelorn could be such an album and most songs on it could be such a song.

They’re a young band with one EP on their resume so they have a long road ahead of them, but after listening to their full length Lovelorn for the last couple of weeks I’m convinced that what they do comes from their hearts and what they play will get them the recognition they deserve. Lovelorn is an album that doesn’t scare you with progressive elements of hard-to-comprehend value. Technical aspect of the album is simple and straightforward but the arrangements, melodies and energy the album brings can cause a whole range of emotions or reactions, and what’s cool about that is it is like taking a puff from a stranger’s bong - you’ll find out what it does when it reaches your bloodstream. Forensic Clinic is a band that creates music for a listener that wants more out their music. Songs move in different directions and keep changing to stay interesting; and even though the influences are still very much easy to point out, they used the best elements and made them their own. Album is well recorded and mastered, and mixing is also done very well. No fillers on this disc and going through the songs is a pleasure. Another thing that I like is use of calmer instrumental pieces between those harsh and heavy pounding songs. Reminds me of albums from the 80’s era when speed or thrash metal bands did such thing to give a listener a breather between sonic beatings. Cool move.

Forensic Clinic is a young band and this could be the beginning of something huge. Talent is there and all the elements that make good album are present. Listening to Lovelorn was a good experience and to my own surprise I don’t really have anything to complain about. I enjoyed the disc and I think the only thing left to do is to say that Forensic Clinic needs to get discovered and they need all the help they can get. Visit their page, listen to the songs and tell them what you think.
