This is basically "The Loss and Curse of Reverence" single with two new and different tracks. Don’t worry, it’s not the songs that didn’t make the grade for the godly "Anthems..." album, instead they’re strange, synth/studio based songs that seem more like a side project.

"In Longing Spirit" develops slowly with whispered vocal lines. Ihsahn’s voice takes you on a strange journey over the Nordic tundra and spiritual planes as the song starts to pick up in speed and intensity. More and more studio effects are used as the song progresses, and it ends with a strange, eerie chant.
"Opus a Satana" is completely done with synths and progresses like a fine classical composition piece done by an orchestra, and ends in a glorious climax. Just shows how much talent for music these Nordic metallers really have.

These songs are just strange experiments that didn’t fit "Anthems...". A hardcore Emperor fan will want this, but with only two new songs it’s pretty much a waste of money to anyone else.

Bottom Line: Only two new tracks, they’re very good, but nothing to spend $20 on.

Rating: 7 out of 10
