MetalBite Review by JD on 11/28/2010
I love the music of the NWOBHM movement. It was raw, heavy and always could laugh at itself for the silliness when it first broke out. I still laugh at myself when the memory of when I would dress up in my sparkly star covered tight spandex and teased hair that had enough hair spray in it that it might have been the root cause for the ozone layer being the way it is. I sometimes even miss it (a little). With the mind now set fully here is England’s one record wonder - Deep Switch.

As a collection from a band that most never heard of, its not that bad. It is cheesy as hell, and dated to the point of feeling a little stupid, but that ends up being the charm of it that makes it fun to listen to. With amazing 80's hooks and a strong sense of humour that ties everything into it, takes any listener back to the time where metal started its climb to glory and without lowering your IQ any.

Sounding like a proud cross between Saxon, early Y&T, Judas Priest and even the tongue in cheek of Spinal Tap, Deep Switch are a band that is strong. Songs like the humour laced ‘Pigfeeder!’ and the infectious and very NWOBHM sounding ‘Nine Inches Of God’ power right through it all with an exuberance that is mostly disappeared from Metal’s lexicon

A classic sounding album, that is a throwback to metal’s earliest days. I have to say that this is one of my favourite albums so far this year, even though it is a dinosaur in sound and feel. Some things are just better that way... metal being one of them. I do have to dock their rating but in my hear, it takes me back to when I was a little headbanger. Nostalgia... gotta love it.
