I have to admit right off the top that grindcore is not something I listen to a whole lot. I love extremes, but this genre does not get my heart pumping although I have heard a few bands here and there who I liked. Now, I go on to the review.

This is a two man outfit (now a trio) hailing from Portland Or, who have a demo and EP besides this full album but there is a lot more here than you might expect. As a subgenre of metal and hardcore the results are organized chaos when done right. And Vulture Locust has that chaos, and does it right. Metal extremes meets hardcore grind on this disk, and creates something very powerful. Brutal is what I call it. Songs like the venom shouted punk voiced "Home Invasion" to the short but powerful "False Flag" pummels you with a sonic sledgehammer that is relentless and yet there is melody throughout the assault that keeps the pounding going with vicious one mindedness. With all of this, with a social consciousness, Vulture Locust are making me look more into the grind, and looking under the genre tag.

I went into to this wondering about this band and came out thoroughly respecting these metalized punks. Even I can get into something like this, because it dares me to do so. It is an album that his hard to get into, but once you do… it is worth the effort.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10
