Review by Adam M on April 9, 2026.

This is a good album that perhaps presented the peak of the band because the outstanding song “At the Gallows End”.  The entire album is similar to an early Trouble release.  The atmosphere and singing are iconic and make this an enjoyable listen.  The album is also similar to early Black Sabbath in its mood and overall delivery.

The musicianship is fairly solid here with a great deal of emphasis on the guitar work which is doomy and effective.  The singing is operatic and fits the music nicely.  The instruments come together nicely and make a cohesive whole.  It’s really a wonderful listen with a pretty good production job and an ear for the doom-laden mood.

The problem I’m having with the disc is that it does not reach the same level of excellence as Black Sabbath’s early work or the best Trouble work.  It is instead simply another entry into the genre that is solid, but nothing amazing.  Still, I like the standout song on the album “At the Gallows End” so much that the work is worth mentioning for that song alone.

The entire album is a feast of doom metal delight that continually intrigues the listener into new directions and wonders.  There is very little to dislike here and the overall quality of the release is pretty good.  It is not the best doom metal release, but good enough to make an impact and have its desired effect.
