Here comes good news for all of you who do not appreciate changes in any form very much. Chainsaw from Greece needed seven years for a new full-lenght, their third one, but they did not modify their style in any way. Didn't they have enough ideas for a more varied approach? The very ordinary title of the album and its artwork (a kind of "Hell Awaits" tribute for poor people) seem to indicate this, but the music on Satan tells another tale. Chainsaw just love their approach and they perform the material authentically.

This is not to say that everything works. The miniature song "Amok" does not make much sense (because it actually had potential for more) and the same applies for the somewhat boring first part of the closer. "Cry Blood" also does not make my day. Its discreet Motörhead vibes lend the song a boozy character which does not quite fit the context of the full-length. I have absolutely nothing against the Lemmy's musical legacy, but in general Chainsaw put the focus on crispy, sharp riffs and an omnipresent wickedness. The sometimes nonsensical lyrics underline this. "Inside the lethal venus hides a switchblade penis" surely describes a well known phenomenon and the trio reminds us of the fact that "the dead watch you masturbate, masturbate". Honestly speaking, I hope they have something better to do.

Okay, we should not take this poetry too seriously, because we are still speaking about black thrash and therefore they lyrics cannot claim much relevance for themselves. It is enough that the two titles from which the excerpts are taken are musically pleasing. Both "Death By 69" and "The Dead Watch You" show Chainsaw in their comfort zone, where they go straight ahead while having a few number of pretty cool riffs up their sleeves. Especially the latter with its powerful chorus belongs to the highlights of the album, together with the catchy opener "Mentor Of The Tormentor" or "Burn His Corpse". Speaking of openers, the title track kicks off the B side of the vinyl in a thrilling manner. Its razor-sharp riff guarantees a good drive and simultaneously lends the song a catchy flow. Perhaps the dudes do not belong to the composers with the highest demands on themselves. But they know what they do and their conventionally designed tracks are coherent, compact and tightly performed.

It goes without saying that the band accepts the standards of the bastard genre. What else can you do when being not interested in innovation? So we get high velocity, raw, pretty pissed off vocals and, of course, no acoustic guitars, female vocals or further bullshit. The bone-dry production emphasizes the focus on the essentials. Friends of acts such as Deathhammer and comparable formations can or should spend some time with Satan – it's hardly imaginable that they will regret it. On the other hand, Chainsaw will not win any new fan who does not already like blackened thrash metal. But I bet they don't care.
