2024 saw the first steps of UK thrashers Struck A Nerve, being more or less where Shrapnel's thrash DNA migrated after their great 2020 LP Palace for the Insane. Since last time, drummer Chris Williams left the alt-metal ship too, for the second time in his career, and went on to perform with Gama Bomb. So it does seem somewhat clear that, at this point, Chris Martin is the only one truly okay with their change in sound. Anyway, I digress – and as Struck A Nerve keep rocking out, I can live with it.
That said, Parade Of Violence is only their third single, meaning that their release pace is arguably the slowest thing about their music. We indeed get another speeder that is over and out in three and a half minutes. It might lack the killer riff that could truly elevate the whole thing, like it happened on 'Nocturnal Terror', and the refrain doesn't feel like it's got the same momentum, but in terms of bludgeoning, which really has been the band's mission statement from day one, it does deliver, like in a 'short track approximately at the middle of the tracklist that isn't suited to be the opener but does its job while it's on' sense. Aarran Tucker is always an added value with his brutal, visceral screams, and there's a new guitarist in Lexell Altaïr which might lead to further developments in this field. Let's see.
What's the takeaway? Well, as simple as it might be, that it might be time for a full-length effort. Maybe there will be the usual, mandatory 6-minute tracks to string out the total length, but if they decide to do a whole album with only songs like these three (which wouldn't be too dissimilar from something like Enforced's War Remains, in all honesty), it'll be hard to find something to complain about.
