This album brought Primordial to the forefront and is often considered by many to be one of the band’s absolute best works. It has the right blend of folk and doom for maximum effect and is highly memorable. Other Primordial efforts would follow and some would be less interesting, but this is certainly a highlight in the band’s discography. It is emotional and has an Irish flavor that is unique and interesting. The outfit’s style arguably peaked here although they have other excellent albums like Redemption at the Puritan’s and The Gathering Wilderness.

The guitars feature an emotional impact that is welcome to behold and a highlight of the genre. The vocals are perfectly drenched with atmosphere and add to these catchy songs. Drums are also strong and fill out the remainder of the performances. They would change their sound again a few times, but this is certainly a highpoint and a standout performance for the band. They are tight and the song resonate with a strong impact. In terms of musical performances, the production also bolsters this and makes it powerful sounding.

If there is a flaw to be found it is in how Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand is perhaps more atmospherically charged at times and stole the show for me. This was still a strong album and as essential as any in this folkish doom type of sound. It is quite the masterpiece the genre and one that all fans of the band should have listened to multiple times. The band would change its sound several times, but this remains a staple of their sound.

While there are other good albums in the band’s discography, like Spirit the Earth Aflame, The Gathering Wilderness and Redemption at the Puritans Hand, this remains a staple of their discography. Irish eyes are indeed smiling upon these lads as they create an emotionally resonant sound.
