Spain is a small enough of a country but from where I have been enlightened by some massive sounding metal that is pulsing out of this place. Fuelled by hatred and darkness, Xerion have come for souls... no matter who’s souls it is.

Driven by one lone person, with help of his veiled friends, has created an interesting album for himself. Mixing this odd paring of old school Black Metal like early Bathory with some symphonic elements of many of today’s darkened metal Xerion rifles out some intense music without any frills. Dark and morose with the satanic might, this project is not for the faint-of-heart.

Devilish vocals mixing with pretty straight ahead riffing create some strong melodies that tend to stick in your head. Add in the more operatic touches as well, and there is this strong piece of music looming out of the mire of today’s BM scene. It is pretty simple, basic and heavy... each note bend on banishing the light from an unsuspecting earth.

Despite being sung in Galician language the album still conveys the darkness that looms inside. A sign of a good band, trying to break out of their own country. Xerion have done that admirably. With a bit of luck, and a continuing march to get better this band could do it real fast, because as it is- it is good already, trying English will broaden their fan base.
