This is a good introduction to the band because it is pummelling and raw in equal measures.  It is a very punishing and evil sounding recording that brought the band the respect it deserves in the death metal genre.  The riffs are more simplistic than on later releases, but still have the proper amount of impact.  All in all, this is a fun release.

The musicianship is good with solid guitar playing and a good vocal performance from Ross Dolan.  It is also very nicely produced for an early album in their discography allowing the riffs to breathe through.  There is very little to dislike here as the album is pummelling and addictive with great riffs and drumming throughout.

The problem I’m having with the release is that later ones like Close to a World Below are far more nicely executed in terms of overall effect.  This one is a little more generic sounding and not as interesting and thoughtful as that one.  It is still very punishing and makes it mark for the time.

Overall, this is a very good recording that is only brought down by some generic aspects.  It is also not as compelling as some of their other albums and this brings it down a notch or two.  Still, I had fun with this album and it is very pummelling stuff.
